You’ve heard of that old expression, the straw that broke the camel’s back. Well, throughout the Commonwealth, we have another sort of straw- the Straw Purchase. It seems silly to some, but straw purchasers can face 5 more years in jail and lots of fine. So what is a Straw Purchase? A Straw Purchase is when someone who is eligible to purchase a firearm does so for another person. Most of the time, that gun ends up in the hands of someone who is ineligible to buy a legal firearm. Straw purchases have become a big deal lately as the District Attorneys in Philadelphia, Delaware, and other counties seek to hold straw purchasers accountable. Recently, there have been a string of high profile cases where women were sent to jail for purchasing guns for others. If someone asks you to buy a gun for them, the answer should be no in all circumstances. Don’t risk a jail sentence for someone’s desire to carry a weapon. If you are charged with making a Straw Purchase, please contact our office immediately. We are here to help.
